Overview

Thirty years ago a strange phenomenon called a "spacequake" devastated the center of Eurasia, claiming the lives of at least 150 million people. Since then, smaller spacequakes plague the world on an irregular basis. Shido Itsuka, a seemingly ordinary high schooler comes across a mysterious girl at the ground zero of a spacequake and learns from his sister Kotori she is one of the "Spirits" who are the real cause of the spacequakes that occur when they manifest themselves in the world. He also learns that Kotori is the commander of the airship Fraxinus, crewed by the organization Ratatoskr, and is recruited to make use of his mysterious ability to seal the Spirits' powers thus stopping them from being a threat to mankind. However, there is a catch: to seal a Spirit's power, he must make her fall in love with him and kiss him.

Overview

Shido Itsuka, who used to be a normal high school student at Raizen High, meets the first Spirit, Tohka, and awakens his power to "seal the Spirit's power". Though they may be feared and hated beings due to their immense power, Spirits were always alone and knew only combat and death. Shido, the only one in the world with the power to seal the Spirits' might, hurls himself into life-threatening dates with the beautiful Spirits in order to save them.

Overview

Life has settled down into a calm state for Shido – or at least as calm as he can be when he's juggling the romantic interests of a half-dozen sealed Spirits and one aggressive classmate. Another spatial quake warning sends him out to a ruined amusement park to meet the newest Spirit, the green-haired Natsume, who dresses like a witch and uses magical powers to render AST attackers comically ineffective. Although things go well at first, he inadvertently offends her, and her retribution comes by pretending to be him and trying to ruin his reputation at school. When that effort ultimately gets thwarted by Origami and Tohka, she resorts to a much more involved plan that could result in one of the people around him disappearing.

Ordinary high school boy Shidou discovers a mysterious girl at ground zero of a recent spacequake. Shidou learns, through his sister Kotori, that the girl is one of the Spirits: mystical creatures responsible for the spacequakes. Shidou is recruited to help "seal" the spirits and end their threat to mankind. There’s just one catch: the only way to seal a spirit—is to make her fall in love with you.

Though they appear as human girls, they are beings different from humans — spirits. Possessing immense power, whenever they manifest from the neighboring world, they cause disasters known as “Spatial Tremors.” Because of this, they are even called humanity’s natural enemies. The means humanity can take against the threat of these spirits are either to exterminate them by force, or… “go on a date and make them fall in love!” Shido Itsuka possesses the ability to seal a spirit’s power by making them fall in love and sharing a kiss. Using this power, he has been able to save both humanity and the spirits themselves. However, a major upheaval is about to unfold around him. DEM Industries, one of the world’s largest corporations and a group seeking the power of the spirits, launches an all-out assault to take Shido’s life.
